Free Art for Oregon Youth With Beaverton’s Community Band Concerts

Golden Road Arts, a local nonprofit near Hillsboro, Oregon, bringing free art lessons to youth in our community, is excited to announce that we will be working with Beaverton’s Community Band and their Summer Concerts in the Park Series.
Beaverton’s Summer Concert Series.
We will visit three Beaverton parks to bring free art lessons and projects to all who attend the concert performance. Each performance will be hosted by the Beaverton Community Band, conducted by Martin Sobilman. The band will perform great concert band music – marches, music from movies and more – also featuring vocals by Lisa Neher. Each concert event will present additional activities for attendees and have food carts on-site. These events are free and open to the public. Families are welcome to attend, as there will be something for everyone.
Check the complete schedule for park dates and times that’s shown below, and this summer plan to attend as many free Concert in the Park events as possible!

Why Is Art Education so Important?

According to Barbara Mason, “It’s a proven fact that children who are exposed to arts education do better in all their core classes. We want to expose these young children to art to enrich their lives and education.”
Golden Road Arts was founded in 2019 by award-winning printmaker and arts educator Barbara Mason. After raising her family in the community, Barbara observed that children (including her own grandchildren) did not have the access to arts education that she enjoyed in her youth. In response, she created Golden Road Arts to bring free sequential art lessons and art literacy to Oregon students in grades K–6. Golden Road Arts has a large online library of free sequential art lessons, including many videos that highlight working artists from around the Pacific Northwest.
We post new lessons regularly. You’ll find them on our website as well as on our Golden Road Arts Facebook and Instagram pages. Golden Road Arts also facilitates in-class art lessons in several elementary schools in the community, as well as for migrant youth during the summer.
