During July and August 2025, Golden Road Arts and the Hillsboro Public Library are once again teaming up to bring back the popular Art In the Park summer art events. The series of 15 events in parks across Hillsboro will feature a live book reading followed by an art lesson developed for elementary and middle school students. Join us for one event or the whole series, and enjoy a summer filled with creativity and learning.

What to Expect at Art In the Park in Hillsboro

Since 2021, Golden Road Arts and the Hillsboro Public Library have partnered to bring free art lessons to the community in Hillsboro and beyond. At these 90-minute events, children gather to hear an inspiring, age-appropriate story, read first in Spanish, then in English. The kids are then given art projects inspired by the themes of the book, with full support and encouragement from the Golden Road Arts educators.

Art In the Park is primarily aimed at elementary and middle school children, though all school-age students are welcome to attend. Families in Hillsboro and the surrounding areas return each year for the unique combination of creativity, social interaction and learning. And with a free take-home kit that includes books and a coloring book, kids have everything they need to continue their creative journey at home. If you can’t attend in person, we also have free art lessons online to support you.

The summer series of events takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until noon throughout July and August. We also have a kickoff event on Saturday, June 28, at Shute Park in Hillsboro. For a complete list of all dates and locations, take a look at the flyer below.
